Buy Fresh, Buy Local Produce

Supervisor Gioia helped spearhead an effort by the Board of Supervisors to make local fresh produce (primary grown in east county) easily available to urban residents (primarily in the west). The "Buy Fresh, Buy Local" initiative also aims to connect students with farmers and agriculture, and to promote locally-grown produce in a number of ways.

As part of this effort, Supervisor Gioia helped establish the North Richmond Farma community-based educational farm operated by the nonprofit Urban Tilth. The farm runs a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm box program, which Supervisor Gioia is proud to support.
